It's been awhile. I've been busy doing cartoon work for a local paper, here's some recent stuff

Busy

Summer seems to be set in full-swing now. The hot lazy days have begun & I've decided to start a full-fledged story/short graphic novel, mildly based off of my Skeleton Blues comic. I don't know much of the details about myself, but it's going to be a dark gothic-style tale taking place in 19th century.

I'm also going to be working on a mini-comic for a zine this September. It's going to be dementedly ridiculous to the extent my morality lets me draw.
Around last week I found, to my surprise, a pack of canvas panel at Wal-Mart (of all places) for probably 3 bucks so I'm going to be trying those out for a series of paintings I'm starting to work soon as well.

Busy, busy, busy; as a Bokononist would say.

Also, The Flaming Lips are finally coming to my town. Upon fainting, I promptly bought tickets. I'M EXCITED.

Italia

I'm back from my trip to Italy. I've seemed to have left my heart there, as well as the keys to my luggage. Luckily one of the hotels I was staying at had some pliers I could break the locks with.

I took around a thousand pictures, 400 of them I'm suspecting to be blurry.

I'm planning on going back there to study abroad in college.

Skeleton

After around six months of production, I've finally come up with a good description for my Skeleton Blues comic.

"It's classic slapstick cartoon humor mixed with obscure pop culture regurgitation and watered-down surrealistic absurdity."

Well

Last November I said I was going to revitalize this blog and start posting art again. This was obviously a complete and total lie, seeing as how I haven't updated since January.
I blame tumblr; it's much more user-friendly when it comes to posting art (conartdoodles.tumblr.com).

Regardless of this, I've made the decision to turn this into more of a "multi-purpose" type of thing. Photos, daily life events, the occasional sketches, writings, pseudo-intellectual ramblings.

Anywhooooo, I'm leaving for Italy and Spain this Wednesday for eight days and I'll be keeping a daily sketch journal and taking loads of pictures, many of which will most most likely end up on here.
I'll be back on the 16th.

Until then, I'll be sleeping.

Chicken Animation

I've been getting into animating lately. First, since I have no money, I was using a free program called Pencil which turned out to be pretty disappointing. But I found another Plastic Animation Paper which downright awesome.

Here's a short animation test I did in the Pencil program.

Exciting news for me, I got a comic published in a local magazine! I won the Boise Weekly's Bad Cartoon Contest and now I get to draw 51 more comics for a year!

I'm back! To get the reviving of my blog off to a good start I present to you... Naked ladies!

Queen

I decided to post this old doodle I did a few months ago to make up for my lack of not posting more stuff than I think I should be. And with the new found advice that I recently got from one of my favorite artists, Phil McAndrew (http://www.philintheblanks.com), I'm going to stop focusing so much on creating a certain style and getting a good & successful comic going, I'm going to practice on honing my overall drawing skills and practice more on drawing comics so I can get better at making them. His advice made me realize that I'm getting way too ahead of myself in trying to become a successful artist and I need to slow down a little (Which means I'm going to be drawing waaay more drawings though)

In other news, I'm thinking about doing something new with this blog. I already know very few people read it, which isn't really a big deal to me, but I feel like it's getting a little old & stale. I'm probably going to do one of three ideas with it:

1. I keep posting random little drawings and pictures on this blog and create another blog on blogger that's more for more personal drawings & thoughts (or vice versa)
2. I keep posting little drawings and pictures (both random & personal) on this blog and I wipe the dust off of my old livejournal account and start up a dinky little journal comic just so I can practice making comics & gives people a better representation of my life instead of the little one panel drawings I do on this blog right now.
3. I just quit posting on this blog altogether and start fresh on a new blog (or on livejournal) and get a journal comic thing going.

The second choice sounds the best to me which I'll probably end up doing on a weekly basis (if I ever figure out how to manage time efficiently Anyways sorry for the long post, it's done now.

Hello, it's been awhile. What's new with me? ooooh you don't need to know stuff like that, silly child. Just kidding. Anyways it's 4th of July weekend and I hate to be a party-pooper, but I'm not really a fan of fireworks anymore. I guess they just lost their "magic." I blame the teenagers consistently lighting them off all the time, trying to light themselves and other objects on fire. Other than that, I have a comic idea going and I've been doing some character models and I'll start writing a script in a week or so; as soon as I get my light box built...
